Like a Great Wine, we have the Perfect Blend !

With his 1860km of Coastline Portugal is a Perfect Place to Practice this Sport that we all Love… Sailing ! Portugal is known as a Tourist Country all Over the World ! Due to his Amazing Weather, the Vast Coast allows the Practice of many Water Sports, the Alimentation and the Accommodation. With these factors and with the Several Marinas that the Country has, it’s an Advantage to Sail in Portugal and it’s Possible during the 365 days of the Year! We also host a lot of Important Competitions, from World and European Championships to Qualifications for the Olympics and a lot of Trainings during the Winter.

 

The Core of this Team is a part of the Portuguese Golden Generation and has sailed Many Years Together in the Bigamist. With the Younger Members we form an Interesting and Balanced Team. For one hand the Members of the Old Guard, who are very experienced Individually and as a Team. They can Sail with their eyes almost closed, due to their Several Hours in the Sea, since World and European Championships, to Medals and Diplomas in the Olympic Games, Participations on the “America’s Cup” and on Offshore Racing, like the ”Ocean Race”. And on the other hand, the younger Crew, that also has interesting Achievements and a Amazing Attitude and Future ahead. With this Knowledge and Fresh Perspective, the Old Guard and the Nwebies are going to form a Team of Excellence. Our Team still has the peculiarity of having the Captain as a Non-Crew for the SSL47. João Rodrigues is more focused on putting all the pieces together and mastering the elements, until the perfect point is reached. In order to get the most of each Individual Member and to Gear Every Piece to work as One, a True Team.

 

Over the Last Few Years, there haven’t been any Projects with more than two or three Portuguese Sailing Together and even Less Under the Flag of our Country. With the Amazing Exception of the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team, that is going to do 3 Legs of The Ocean Race 22-23 on the VO65, with a Crew 100% Portuguese, no other Projects have accomplished this achievement with the exception of the Bigamist. This is one of the reasons why the Star Sailors League Gold Cup is so Special for us. A Chance for the Nations to Show Themselves, work as a Team and demonstrate their talent.

Is the number of times that our Captain, João Rodrigues has participated in the Olympic Games! He has been representing Portugal at the highest level for over 30 years and he is the Portuguese with more presences on the OG! And also because the number 7 is Cristiano Ronaldo's Jersey number.

THE CAPTAIN

João Rodrigues

João was born in the Pearl of the Atlantic, Madeira Island and has been a Successful Windsurfer since the late nineties. Has Competed in 7 Olympic Games, with 3 World Titles and 5 European Titles in different Windsurfing Classes. His Experience on and off the water, will help the team to Thrive, giving them the Confidence and Support to Perform at their Best.

THE LEADERS

Afonso Domingos

Afonso is a Portuguese Sailing Reference and Sails until today in many different Classes. His Acuity, Focus and Ability make him a team Leader and his mastery will lead the Team to the Top. He is the first European that won the Bacardi Cup on the Class Star, he sailed on 3 Olympic Games and won 2 Diplomas. Is best ISAF Ranking is on the 49er and on the Star, respectively a 2nd and a 4th place in each. CEO and Skipper of the best International Portuguese Team, in different types of keel boats, the Bigamist.

Hugo Rocha

One of the most recognized and famous Portuguese sailors, both for his passion for the sport and for his results. Hugo Rocha competed in 3 Olympic Games. Winning a Medal in the 470 Class, in Atlanta. He still conquered 9 World Championships in the most diverse classes, from Laser II, Platu 25, J80, SB20, Swan 45 to ORC class, and he is also 5 times European Champion. In 2023, he participated for the first time in an Oceanic race, the Ocean Race, with a 100% Portuguese crew, the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team and after this experience he even got closer to the Ocean and improved his skills.

Nuno Barreto

Born in Lisbon, is one of the sailors of the Golden Generation of the Portuguese sailing. He has a Bronze Medal in the Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996 on the 470 class and has participated in Two other OG. In the America’s Cup, he was part of the Spanish Challenge of 2007 and accumulated 3 World Titles, has 5 Medals in the Europeans and 19 years of Professional Circuits always Trimming Genoas and Spis. On top of this Experience, Nuno is a good Comunicator and has a lot of Experience so it is Excellent to have him on board, especially if you want to have the boat Sailing at his Optimal Conditions.

THE YOUTH FACTOR

In our Team we have multiple Promising Athletes, since the Costa brothers, Diogo and Pedro, that won the World Championship on the 470 in Sanremo, Italy, 2016 and went to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Each of them with new projects but both fighting for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Diogo is still in the 470 Class and Pedro now as a Skipper in the 49er. To Mafalda Pires de Lima, who has 4 Podiums on Europeans Championships, a female inspiration that recently changed to a new Class, the Fórmula Kite. And the younger members, Ricardo Alves and José Mendes. The first a skipper from another Team of the 49er, that already achieved two National Titles on the 420 and the second, a Ilca 7 Sailor that was on 2nd Place on the U21 World Championship.

All of them, excepting for José, are giving their best to the next Olympic Games, but who knows, maybe in a near future he will join them.
